This tractor was built sometime in 1960.
Description from the ad went as follows:
"Perkins 4-270 diesel engine. Power steering. Adjustable rear axle with clamp-on hubs. Adjustable front axle. New inner and outer tie rod ends. Brand new 7.50-16 front tires. Rears are a decent pair of Firestone 15.5-38 not loaded. All the rims are good. Has the cylinder and lift mechanism for the 3 point hitch but the lower arms and turnbuckles are missing. Radiator has been done. Injectors have been done. Tin work is good but badly needs paint. Has the normal leaks of a 60 year old tractor. I believe it is a 1959 model. There is also a parts tractor in a serious state of disassembly. It and all the parts go too." I later learned it was a 1960 model but that didn't matter much.

During the visit to see the tractor I learned the owner previous to the seller had acquired the tractor with a bad engine. Rather than painfully source all the parts for a rebuild (apparently they are hard to find) he simply found a Claas Europa combine which had the same Perkins 4-270 as the Cockshutt 560 did. He dropped the engine from the combine into the tractor, wired up the basics and he was done. The air cleaner is possibly the only component from the original engine still on the tractor.

Someone somewhere decided they didn't like having a grease nipple where it should be. The spare steering column appeared to be rebuilt to it was easy decision to swap them.

In the event that was the engine swap it appears only the nessesary wiring for operation was done. No big deal since rewiring isn't that hard.

Thank goodness for wiring diagrams.

A rusty fuel filter? Time for retirement.

Removed all the useless and dead end wiring. First step to a good rewiring.

The one light mount on the left side was broken off so I swapped the deck with a spare one I acquired in the purchase.

New modern fuel filters are much better than old rusty ones.

When the engine was swapped the throttle control was not hooked up the same as before. It had become impossible due to the slight differences between the Cockshutt and Claas set ups. Where the rod hinge was supposed to be mounted there were instead diesel fuel filters. I therefore had to find a workaround or be stuck using a shut off cable that was installed to control the throttle. This picture shows a wide shot of the workaround.

I found a new mount point for the rod hinge under the fuel tank. With some couplings, threaded rod, and steel plates the hinge was secured and rods connected. Works quite well.
