Cockshutt 570 Super

Serial Number

This tractor was built sometime in 1961.

Picking up the Tractor

Getting ready for the ride home. The man I purchased the tractor from had a large collection of Cockshutt tractors. This tractor was listed in his dispersal auction but was pulled when it would not start on the day of the auction. Afterward they discovered it would start on ether. While the tractor was running air would come back up through the air intake. This "blow back" pointed to a blown head gasket. This didn't bother me as it would allow me to go over the tractor more thoroughly.

Back home

Resting in the shed. The 550 sits in the background.

First Pass

The tractor was set up with a heat pump piped into the cooling system. Since there is a block heater already installed I'm unsure why a heat pump was installed but perhaps the block heater doesn't work. Worst case I would replace the block heater.

Rusty Fuel

The fuel system was full of rust assumingly from the fuel tank.

Filters of Unknown Age

And this is why I drain and replace all the fluids on tractors I buy. While the Fleetguard is modern the filter on the left is a White filter that has the original part number on it.

Cleaned Up

WD-40 and a rag can do wonders.

Heads Off

I sent the head with a friend of mine to rebuild and do a valve job on. In the mean time I shined up the block to prep it for the new head gasket.

Another Old Filter

White Farm. Wonder how old this is...

April 5, 2020

Why?!

This was the worst gear clamp to get. I had to get on my back under the tractor to remove it.

Remember...

...to drain the engine block even if you think it's not that full...

Re-clamped Hoses

Double clamped for good luck.

Injectors Tested and Re-Installed

After some professional adjustment the injectors are ready to go.

Fuel Lines and Injector Musical Chairs

When I labelled the injectors for order they were already removed from the tractor and I accidently numbered them in reverse. As a result the number 1 and number 6 injecters have been swapped because the fuel lines didn't fit.

New Starter Solenoid

Stopped working shortly after the tractor got put back together. Cracked the plastic end casing on the new one and had to swap it with the metal one off the old solenoid.
